It’s Friday, and Roger Leigh jumps into his tractor-tailor rig to drop off some containers before he heads home for the weekend.
Leigh has been in the trucking business all his life. He now helps run the Sanders-Leigh Trucking Line that his father started over 40 years ago.
Last second runs are nothing new to him.
Leigh looks forward to going home, but not to relax with his wife, Ruby, his son, Kirk, and his daughter, Robin. He has to rehearse. When he’s not driving trucks or spending time with his family, Roger Leigh is singing gospel music with his group, The Believers.
Leigh likes the opportunities to meet people that trucking provides, but he can “reach out” to people through his music. The Believers group is committed to spreading the word. It has recorded three albums since the group was started three years ago. Leigh hopes he can “sow some seeds” through his music.
“You can reach a lot of people by music who might not be reached any other way,” Leigh said. “Hopefully, someone might hear us and be changed.”
Although The Believers members are serious about their music, Leigh said they must maintain a proper perspective.
“Music has to be fun,” he said. “You should always sound the best you can, but that shouldn’t be the most important thing. Nobody’s perfect. We just hope we can spread a little joy.”
